orng questions

Many people have questions when they first hear about tehorng. Hopefully we can answer some of those questions here. If your question isn't answered here, feel free to stop by our IRC chat room.

  1. "Isn't this stealing from the artists?"

You are stealing from artists if you don't support them. Think of orng as a way to test drive fresh new music. When you find fresh music you like, support the artist.

Organizations like the RIAA want to scare you into thinking that you need to buy CDs, but there is much more history behind this, and we hope you'll take the time to understand it.

  2. "Could I get in trouble for downloading?"

The RIAA isn't interested in going after people who download music, only those who upload it. They are using scare tactics to intimidate people online.

Programs like Limewire and BitTorrent are less safe because they upload your music, which can get you into trouble. However downloads from tehorng are only downloads and never upload automatically.

  3. "Do you keep track of downloads?"

No, we never have. Our database contains no IP addresses, and we don't keep any server logs. However, we have no control over what other sites record, so you should look at their privacy policies for more information.

  4. "Why do I keep seeing ads and popups?"

Some download sites have advertising that we have no control over. We don't have any ads ourselves because we depend on donations to help pay server costs.

To help block unwanted advertising we recommend installing Firefox and the Adblock Plus plugin, both of which are free.
